Soar Through The Air
Skydiving is the ultimate thrill-seeker's experience—an adrenaline-pumping adventure that pushes you to face your fears and embrace the feeling of flying. Whether it’s a bucket-list item or a spontaneous decision to jump into something new, skydiving is an experience that will stay with you forever. If you’re thinking about taking the plunge, here’s everything you need to know to prepare, enjoy, and make the most of your skydiving adventure.
The Skydiving Experience: Jumping Into the Unknown
Once you’ve arrived at the skydiving center, it’s time to take the leap. Here’s what to expect throughout the day and how to make the most of every moment. This experience is pretty simple. You find a place, you sign your life away, you jump and then you go grab a bite to eat and talk about how cool it was!
The Briefing:
Before you suit up, you’ll receive a thorough briefing on what to expect. For tandem jumpers, this usually includes basic safety instructions, how to position your body during the freefall, and the landing process. Listen carefully and ask questions if anything is unclear.
Gear Up:
You’ll be fitted with a jumpsuit, harness, and helmet. For tandem jumpers, your instructor will double-check your harness to ensure you’re securely strapped in. Make sure everything feels comfortable and snug before boarding the plane.
The Flight Up:
The anticipation builds as the plane climbs higher and higher. Depending on the location, the flight to altitude can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes. During this time, you’ll have a chance to enjoy the breathtaking views and chat with your instructor. As the plane nears your jump height (usually around 12,000 to 15,000 feet), you’ll feel a mixture of excitement and nerves.
The Jump:
When it’s your time to jump, your instructor will guide you to the door of the plane. You’ll get a rush of wind and adrenaline as you prepare to leap into the sky. The moment you exit the plane, you’ll experience a freefall that lasts anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds, depending on the altitude. During this time, you’ll feel weightless, and the world will open up beneath you—nothing quite compares to the sensation of freefalling!
The Parachute Ride:
Once your instructor deploys the parachute, the freefall transitions into a peaceful canopy ride. You’ll experience a sudden jolt as the chute opens, but then it will become smooth and serene. You’ll float gracefully above the landscape, enjoying a 4-6 minute ride back to the ground. This is the perfect time to take in the views and even try your hand at steering the parachute if your instructor gives you control.
Landing:
Landing is often easier than you might think. Your instructor will guide you through the process, and you’ll either perform a stand-up landing or a gentle slide onto the ground. Just follow the instructions, and you’ll be back on solid ground in no time.
