Sober Up
Creative Dinner Party Guide
Drunk Games
This “Sober Up” Dinner Party is all about fun, laughter, and ridiculous games while the drinks flow freely. After a few drinks with friends, things are bound to get a little silly, and this dinner party is designed to let that happen! The twist? As the night goes on, you’ll challenge your guests with some Minute to Win It-style games to see who can “sober up” the fastest (or at least who can be the most sober while still having a blast). Perfect for a group who loves to laugh, compete, and enjoy each other’s company, this party will keep everyone on their toes and entertained until the very end.
The Menu
The Menu: Appetizers & Drinks to Fuel the Fun
Cocktails: Offer a fun, themed cocktail (or two) for your guests to enjoy throughout the night. Think quirky drinks like "Drunken Unicorn Punch" or "Slurred Lemonade," with colorful garnishes like fruit slices and cocktail umbrellas.
Appetizers: Prepare some light, snackable bites to keep guests fueled throughout the evening. Think small finger foods like sliders, cheese and charcuterie boards, chips with dip, or mini tacos.
Water Station: Since the goal is to sober up, provide a dedicated water station with fun drinkware to keep people hydrated in between rounds of games. Maybe even have some fancy mocktails for a non-alcoholic option to keep the fun going without the booze.
The Drinking Experience
The Games: Silly, Fun, and Drunk-Friendly!
Here are some hilarious, Minute to Win It-style games that will keep everyone laughing and competing for the title of "Fastest Sober-er." Remember, these games are all about having fun and seeing who can stay coordinated under the influence!
1. Dizzy Spinning Challenge
What You’ll Need: A small table and a bottle or any object to spin.
How to Play: Players have to spin around the bottle (or any object) five times while standing, then try to walk a straight line. The challenge is to do it without falling or swaying too much. It’s harder than it sounds when you’ve had a few!
Why It’s Funny: Spinning while slightly tipsy will have everyone wobbling around and laughing. It's perfect for seeing who can "sober up" with grace—or at least avoid crashing into furniture.
2. Cup Flip Challenge
What You’ll Need: Plastic cups (at least 10 per person), a flat surface.
How to Play: Each player has to flip plastic cups upside down by flicking the rim with their fingers. The goal is to get all the cups flipped over and land them on their mouths (so they stand on their base) in under a minute.
Why It’s Funny: Watching people try to control their aim and dexterity while tipsy is guaranteed to make everyone giggle. Plus, it’s a challenge to get the cups just right without toppling over.
3. Straw Race
What You’ll Need: A bowl of small marshmallows or pom-poms, plastic straws.
How to Play: Players must suck a marshmallow or pom-pom through a straw and move it from one plate to another. The twist? They must move the marshmallow as quickly as they can without using their hands. Whoever gets the most marshmallows transferred in a minute wins.
Why It’s Funny: The focus on sucking up tiny marshmallows while tipsy will have everyone in stitches, and the game becomes an exercise in patience and coordination!
4. The Drunken Relay
What You’ll Need: A spoon and a small object (e.g., a ping-pong ball or a grape).
How to Play: Each player must balance the ping-pong ball (or grape) on their spoon while walking across the room, around an obstacle (a couch or chair), and back to their starting point. The catch? They have to do it with exaggerated "drunken" movements—so swaying or spinning is encouraged.
Why It’s Funny: Everyone’s coordination will be tested, and the added “drunken” element makes it even funnier to watch as players wobble and laugh trying to finish the course.
5. Bottle Cap Toss
What You’ll Need: Bottle caps and a large glass or bowl.
How to Play: Players take turns tossing bottle caps into a large glass or bowl from a designated distance. They have one minute to get as many in as possible.
Why It’s Funny: After a few drinks, aim and distance become hilariously difficult, so expect a lot of misfires and laughter.
6. "Sober Up" Charades
What You’ll Need: A stack of charades cards or prewritten phrases on paper.
How to Play: Players must act out phrases, movies, or famous people while the rest of the group tries to guess. Each round only lasts a minute, and you can add a twist: the more tipsy a player looks, the harder the phrase!
Why It’s Funny: Watching everyone try to act out charades while tipsy will lead to some hilarious interpretations of the clues. Bonus points for funny gestures and over-the-top performances!
7. The Ping-Pong Blow
What You’ll Need: Ping-pong balls, a shallow bowl, and a straw.
How to Play: Players have to blow a ping-pong ball across a flat surface and into a bowl using only the air from their mouth. They can't touch the ball with their hands! Whoever gets the ball into the bowl first wins.
Why It’s Funny: The difficulty of controlling the ping-pong ball combined with tipsy coordination makes for some hilariously awkward moments.
Awarding the Winner: Crown the "Sober-Up" Champion!
At the end of the night, tally up the scores of each game and crown the winner with a fun, silly prize. Here are some ideas for “awards” you can give out:
Sober Up King/Queen: A crown or a funny oversized mug that says "Sober-Up Champion."
Best Drunken Performance: A tiny trophy or medal for the person with the most over-the-top antics during the games.
Most Likely to Fall Over: A plush pillow or soft toy as a joke prize for the person who was always a little wobbly during the games.
Fastest Sobering-Up: A mini “first aid kit” full of snacks, mints, and a fun hangover remedy like coconut water.
